The Alland stalactite cave is located in the 478 meter high Buchberg south of Alland and was opened as a show cave on June 21, 1928 . Since July 30, 1949, it has been one of the Lower Austrian natural monuments . The original name of the cave was Frauenhöhle and Frauenloch.

description

The cave is a total of 177 meters long, 70 meters of which are open to the public as part of the show cave operation. It has a total height difference of 25 meters, the cave entrance is around three meters high and 2.5 meters wide, its passages are up to 12 meters high. Of all the caves in the Vienna Woods, it has by far the richest stalactite decorations : pearl sinter , stalactites , water chimneys , moon milk and leaching niches can be seen. The attraction is a largely complete - verifiably 10,000 year old - brown bear skeleton ( Ursus Arctos ). The cave fauna and flora is an international research object.

The Buchberg was already settled in prehistoric times. Excavations brought to light objects made of antlers, bones, stone or clay, occasionally also bronze and iron.

Say

There are several legends of the cave, among other things it is said to be the residence of benevolent white and evil black women and of a lake in the mountain. In addition, there should be a connection to the Arnstein cave, which is about three kilometers away .
