The Katharinensee is located east of the Großer Müllroser See and south of the Oder-Spree Canal in the Brandenburg town of Müllrose . The 13  hectare , almost circular lake is located in the valley of the Schlaube . While the neighboring Großer Müllroser See (132 hectares) belongs to the Schlaubetal nature park , the Katharinensee is outside the nature park ; the nature park boundary runs between the two bodies of water. Sometimes the spelling Catharinensee is also found .

The Katharinengraben , via which it is connected to the Oder-Spree Canal , serves as a drain .

fishing

The lake can be used for fishing, there are mainly stocks of eel , perch , pike , carp , tench , catfish and, more rarely, pikeperch . The lake can be used by boats, but motorboat traffic is low.

Others

There is a boarding house on the south bank and the memorial for fallen Soviet soldiers on Seeallee on the east bank . Very close to the residential complex was built on Katharinensee , the accessibility and outpatient care a life of generations to allow.

The Katharinengraben drains the lake to the Oder-Spree Canal

The lake is represented in the legends and fairy tales of the Schlaubetal. Presumably in memory of the Häsckenburg , which has now disappeared and was near the lake and destroyed by the Hussites at the beginning of April 1432 , the legend is about a once-existing castle that belonged to a very ruthless owner named Katharina . She would have beheaded all men who asked for her hand, as none seemed good enough to her. In a stormy night, lightning is said to have lit the night as bright as day, at this moment the castle is said to have sunk into the ground with a terrible rumble and the lake was created. The soul of Catherine still will walk on redemption hoping around the castle. All one hundred years to Johannisnacht dip the castle from the waters, and they will walk on the shore. She would give the key to the treasury to the man who would take her now so that he can take his reward.

In fact, for centuries fishermen have been reporting on finds on and in the lake that suggest the former inhabitants there.
