Katja Assmann

Katja Aßmann (born May 28, 1971 in Warstein ) is a German cultural manager and curator . She studied architecture at Bochum University and art history at Ruhr University Bochum . Since 2016 she has been Artistic Director of the ZKR - Center for Art and Public Space in Berlin.

Professional background

In 1999 Katja Aßmann took over the art and culture division of the International Building Exhibition Emscher Park . Before that, she worked as a freelancer for public relations as well as for the art, culture and architecture department of IBA Emscher Park during her studies.

After several years as a freelance curator and cultural manager, Assmann took over the project management in the field of art, culture and events at the Regionale 2006 in 2004 . Subsequently, she led projects of the state initiative StadtBauKultur NRW , within which she a. a. established the “Baukultur Salon” series of events.

In 2007 she was appointed project and program manager by the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 , where she developed and implemented projects in the fields of architecture, urban planning and the fine arts.

From 2012 to 2017 Katja Aßmann was the Artistic Director of Urbane Künste Ruhr , a new program pillar of Kultur Ruhr GmbH , which was launched as part of the sustainability of the cultural capital Ruhr.2010. Aßmann developed the artistic conception of Urbane Künste Ruhr and curated his own and co-productions together with regional and international artists and collectives.

In 2017 Aßmann was a freelance curator at the IGA International Garden Exhibition Berlin 2017 . At the same time she took over the management of the newly opened art institution ZKR - Center for Art and Public Space Schloss Biesdorf , also in Berlin-Marzahn. In February 2018, the CCNR separated from Biesdorf Castle and has since been working as a mobile nomadic institution a. a. in Spreepark Berlin or as a cooperation partner of the Floating University in the Tempelhof rainwater retention basin.
