Katja Mayer (born January 4, 1968 in Augsburg ) is a former German triathlete and Ironman winner (1999).

Career

Katja Mayer studied sport science and mathematics at the universities of Munich and Augsburg and passed her state examination in mathematics and sport in 1996. In 1998 she started as a licensed trainer for triathlon and cycling and since 2003 she has also been a part-time lecturer at the University of Augsburg and lecturer at the medical training center for physiotherapy.

In 1992 Katja Mayer was able to qualify for a starting place at the World Championship in Hawaii over the long distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running) and won the amateur world champion title. Since 1996 she has been training triathletes, runners, cyclists , mountain bikers, inline skaters and wheelchair users.

She became Vice European Champion in Fredericia (Denmark) in 1997, won the Ironman Florida in 1999 and achieved numerous top placements in national and international triathlon and Ironman events.

From 1994 to 2001 she was a member of the German national triathlon team. Katja Mayer has 35 successful Ironman participations, including eight successful Ironman Hawaii participations. In a total of twenty Ironman competitions, she was placed in the top 5.

Katja Mayer has been married since summer 2003, the couple had a son in November 2004 and a daughter was born three years later.

Katja Mayer is the owner of an event agency that initially organized events such as the Kuhsee Triathlon in Augsburg, the Augsburg city run and the Augsburg company run. Since 2014 she has also been responsible for the organization of the Munich City Run, which is one of the largest fun runs in Germany with over 20,000 participants.
