history

The Katzenmoos area consists of the two valleys Spitzenbach and Weinersberg and was the founding property of the St. Margarethen monastery in Waldkirch and part of the Schwarzenberg rule . As a result of the division of power in 1316, the place went to the Schwarzenbergs on the Schwarzenburg . From 1567, Katzenmoos was under the rule of Upper Austria , and in 1805 it became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden .

The name Kozzenmuos appears for the first time in 1341 . The part Kozze of the place name is said to come from an Alemannic settler Kotze. Moss stands for a water-rich area. The place name is said to have originated from moss of the puke .

In the 16th century the place appeared as Kotzenmoss . It is believed that mining was practiced in earlier centuries .

Katzenmoos was an independent community. It had a mayor and a town council. Katzenmoos has been part of Elzach since January 1st, 1974. The current mayor of Katzenmoos is Franz Lupfer.

Katzenmoos had its own primary and secondary school until 1975 . The school building was rebuilt in 1963.
