history
The commercial school 1 has its origin in the municipal commercial school, which was founded in 1905. In 1934 the part of the school that later became the commercial vocational school for boys moved to Hasenbergstrasse.
During the Second World War , the school was partially destroyed by bombing raids on the night of July 24th to 25th, 1944, which meant that teaching only partially came to a standstill after the end of the war. After reconstruction, it was put into operation again in 1948.
In 1951, a branch of the higher commercial school became the commercial vocational school for girls. In 1964, through a reorganization of the city of Stuttgart, the school was divided into individual branches of industry according to specialist classes for apprentices from credit institutes, insurance companies, forwarding and travel agencies.
In 1988 the new school building on the corner of Hasenbergstrasse and Augustenstrasse was completed and opened. The existing school complex from the 1930s was supplemented with a library, a student lounge, a conference room and 30 classrooms on 4 floors. After the renovation, the two branch offices in Stafflenbergstrasse (school for freight forwarders) and Sillenbuch (school for travel and insurance) and later also Talstrasse (location of the public administration) moved to Hasenbergstrasse.
In 2006, as part of the quality development at KS1, the Roman number I was replaced by the Latin number 1 with regard to the naming, in order to illustrate the importance of the school as the first commercial school in Stuttgart.
The interior renovation of the old building was continued in summer 2009. At the end of September 2009, a student café opened in the rooms of the former caretaker's apartment. In 2010 the school had a total of 3,200 students and a sixth entry class was opened for the business school.
