Kauksi (German Kauks ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in southeast Estonia . It belongs to the Põlva Municipality ( Mooste until 2017 ) in the Põlva County .

description

The village has 281 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). It is 45 kilometers southeast of the second largest Estonian city of Tartu on the Lutsu River (Lutsu jõgi) . One of the numerous water mills on the river is still there. It dates from the 18th century.

The place was first mentioned in 1403 under the name Kaugis .
