Kaur Riismaa (born March 24, 1986 in Tartu ) is an Estonian writer, actor and dramaturge.

Life

Riismaa graduated from high school in Tartu and studied semiotics and theology at the University of Tartu from 2005 to 2010 . He then studied dramaturgy for a few years at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater . He staged his first production in 2012 at the Ugala Theater in Viljandi .

Riismaa has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since 2012 .

Literary work

Riismaa made his poetry debut in Vikerkaar magazine in 2010 and published his first volume of poetry shortly thereafter. It contained short portraits or short biographies in the style of Mats Traats , whose Haral life stories were in turn based on the Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters , and was praised by the critics for his good empathy. The next volumes came in quick succession, so that one critic soon rejoiced that one could follow through his works "how the classical music arises right before our eyes."

The lyrics of Riismaa have been compared and a. with the Estonian classic Jüri Üdi and the Greek poet Konstantinos Kavafis . Riismaa also wrote plays and essays.

In 2015, the author surprised his readership with two prose works, some of which were certified as "making a cult book". Both deal with loss and death, among other things.
