Kaveh Madani

Kaveh Madani ( Persian کاوه مدنی; born July 30, 1981 in Tehran ) is an Iranian scientist, environmental activist and visiting professor at the Center for Environmental Policy (CEP) of Imperial College London .

He is a former Deputy Vice President of Iran and Deputy Head of Iran's Ministry of Environment. He was also Vice President of the United Nations Environment Program .

He is internationally known for his work on integrating game theory and decision analysis into water resource management models. He has played an important role in raising public awareness of water and environmental issues in Iran in recent years. His research activities and his extensive public relations work have influenced the water policy in Iran.

Act

Madani completed a bachelor's degree in hydraulic engineering at the University of Tabriz in 2003 and a master's degree in water resources . From 2006 to 2009 he worked as a research fellow at the University of California, Davis , and then as a postdoc at the University of California, Riverside . From 2008 to 2009 he was a lecturer at California State University, Sacramento . In 2008 he founded WaterSISWEB . From 2011 to 2013 he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida . Since 2013 he has been a professor at Imperial College London in various ranks.

Madani is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers , the American Geophysical Union , the American Water Resources Association, and the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI).

Madani was deputy vice president of the Iranian Environment Agency for a short time, but under pressure from hardliners, he withdrew and left Iran after he was arrested.

Awards

  • 2012: New Face of Civil Engineering, Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers
  • 2016: Arne Richter Award of the European Geosciences Union for Fundamental contributions to integrating game theory and decision analysis into water management models
  • 2017: Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize of the American Society of Civil Engineers for ground-breaking research in developing methods for the allocation of scarce water resources merging conflict-resolution and game-theoretic concepts for application to complex water resources systems and Outstanding leadership in the application of systems analysis to environmental, water and energy resource problems ( his groundbreaking research in the development of methods for the allocation of scarce water resources that bring together conflict resolution and game theory concepts for application in complex water resource systems ).
