Kazimierz Jonkisz (* 9. November 1948 in Wilamowice ) is a Polish drummer of modern jazz .

Live and act

Jonkisz took accordion lessons from the age of ten before switching to drums. At the age of 18 he won the soloist competition at the Wroclaw Jazz nad Odrą Festival in 1967 . In 1971 he received the Komeda Prize from the Katowice Music Academy . In the following years he worked with Tomasz Stańko , Zbigniew Namysłowski ( Winobranie , 1973), Adam Makowicz , Jan Ptaszin Wróblewski , Michał Urbaniak and Bronisław Suchanek (Just Friends) .

Since 1978 he has led his own groups; In 1980 he recorded his debut album. Since 1966 he has been involved in more than 70 albums, including with Marek Grechuta ; in the field of jazz he was in the recording studio 30 times. He also accompanied musicians such as Al Cohn , Roy Hargrove , Larry Coryell , Amina Claudine Myers , Monty Waters , Eddie Henderson , Kevin Mahogany , Larry Goldings and Tim Hagans . He has performed at international festivals such as the Jazz Jamboree , Moldejazz , the Bergamo Jazz Festival, Jazz East-West , Havana Jazz Festival and Temecula International Jazz Festival.

Since 1992 he has taught drums in the jazz department of the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy (today Fryderyk Chopin University of Music ) in Warsaw .
