biography

Jan Wróblewski comes from a family of lawyers and, in addition to his school education, pursued playing the piano and clarinet in the Kalisz Musical Elementary School from an early age. As a teenager he played in a jazz band. Wróblewski completed his studies at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the Technical University in Poznan and later in Cracow at the Academy of Music there . During his studies in Poznań he founded his own band and worked musically with the quintet of the musician Jerzy Milian .

In 1956 Wróblewski was invited to the band Krzysztofs Trzcińskis , later he joined the Komeda sextet as a baritone saxophonist. The appearances with this band, for example at the jazz festivals in Sopot and in television recordings, are considered the basis of his professional work.

The decisive turning point in Wróblewski's career is the prelude to the American jazz promoter George Wein in 1958, who brought Wróblewski an invitation as a musician with the International Newport Band and ultimately made him the first Polish jazz musician to perform at the Newport Jazz Festival with the International Youth Band performed under the direction of Marshall Brown . This appearance is also documented in the film Jazz on a Summer's Day . After this crucial concert, the band performed in many cities in the United States and then in Europe, India, Africa and Asia.

The collaboration with Willis Conover led to the creation of the program 3 kwadranse jazzu , which Wróblewski has moderated continuously since 1970.
