Keely Shaye Smith

Keely Shаye Smith (born September 25, 1963 ), also known as Keely Shaye Brosnan , is an American journalist , author , television presenter , correspondent , model, and actress .

Professional career

Smith appeared with Huey Lewis in the MTV music video Stuck with You , which was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 list for three weeks from September 20 to October 10, 1986 . She appeared for one season as Valerie Freeman on General Hospital (1989).

She was an environmental correspondent for ABC's The Home Show for six years, which earned her two Genesis Awards for her reporting on animal issues, a Special Achievement Award at the 1992 Environmental Film Festival for her work with children, and a nomination from the Environmental Media Association ( EMA ) . Women in Film , the Natural Resources Defense Council , EMA , Earth Communications Office , Heal the Bay , Oceana , Senator Barbara Boxer , Malibu Times and Organic Style Magazine have recognized Smith for her continued commitment to the environment.

She was also a correspondent for the NBC program Unsolved Mysteries from 1994 to 1997 .

Smith also worked as a garden expert and correspondent for Good Morning America and Mike and Maty of ABC as well as an entertainment correspondent for the Today Show on NBC , Entertainment Tonight on CBS and the World Entertainment Report of HBO . She also hosted Great Bears , a series for the Outdoor Life Network .

As a TV producer, Smith-Brosnan created and hosted an environmentally conscious home and garden program for PBS called Home Green Home .

Smith has published several articles in Los Angeles Confidential magazine.

Private life

Smith grew up in Newport and Huntington Beach . After college , she moved to New York City to pursue a career as an actress and model.

On April 8, 1994, she met actor Pierce Brosnan on a beach in Mexico. They were married on August 4, 2001 at Ballintubber Abbey , County Mayo , Ireland . They have two sons (* 1997 and * 2001).

activism

As a teenager she worked to save the wetlands of Bolsa Chica, north of Huntington Beach.

From 1995 to 2000, Smith and her future husband worked with the Natural Resources Defense Council and the International Fund for Animal Welfare to prevent the construction of a proposed salt factory in Laguna San Ignacio, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

In 2007, the couple also successfully fought against the Cabrillo Port Liquefied Natural Gas plant proposed off the coast of Oxnard and Malibu; the State Lands Commission ultimately denied the lease to build the terminal.

Also in 2007, the Brosnans donated $ 100,000 to help replace a playground on the Hawaiian island of Kauai .

In 2009, the Brosnans visited the White House to help Congressmen William Delahunt and Eni Faleomavaega introduce laws designed to close loopholes for commercial and scientific whaling worldwide. That same year, the two Brosnans testified before the United States Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC , in support of the new climate protection act (known as the Clean Energy and Security Act ). In the Senate , however, there was no resolution due to the lack of a majority within the Democratic Party against the strong opposition.

In 2017, the Brosnans produced the award-winning documentary Poisoning Paradise, about the toxic agricultural environment of Kauai, due to be released worldwide in early 2018. Smith and Teresa Tico and directed.

The couple are committed to environmental education in the classroom and sponsor the youth and humanitarian program Roots and Shoots of longtime friend Jane Goodall .
