The Kemitzenstein , also Chamnitzen , is 580.6  m above sea level. NN high elevation of the Franconian Alb with an accumulation of rock formations in the municipality of Bad Staffelstein in the Upper Franconian district of Lichtenfels ( Bavaria ).

Geographical location

The Kemitzenstein is located in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park between the villages of Kümmersreuth , a south-eastern part of Bad Staffelstein, in the south-west and Rothmannsthal in the east, a south-south-east part of Lichtenfels ; however, only the lower areas of its eastern and northeastern flanks belong to Lichtenfels.

The Bavarian State Road  2204 leads southwest past the Kemitzenstein through Kümmersreuth. Coming from the village, the wooded mountain can be reached on foot on the "Kemitzenweg" in about 10 to 15 minutes.

history

On the Kemitzenstein there were clay pots that are probably of Germanic origin. Since the place is not suitable for settlement, it is assumed that it was used as a place of worship in earlier times.

Landscape protection area

The Kemitzenstein lies in the northern part of the "Frankische Schweiz-Veldensteiner Forst" protected landscape area, founded in 2001 and covering 1,021.64 km² (LSG no. 322697).

useful information

The wooded rocky reef of the Kemitzenstein is primarily known as a via ferrata with a low level of difficulty  B. It offers shorter climbing routes up to grade VII + (UIAA). On July 30, 2008, a large, loose boulder, which was in danger of falling, was artificially brought down.

At the Kemitzenstein there is a house for friends of nature ; a few meters to the west there is a survey point ( 575.5  m above sea level ). There is a dolomite quarry on its western foothills "Mondstein" ( 554.6  m above sea level ) .
