Kenneth William Yaremchuk (born January 1, 1964 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League from 1983 to 1989 . His older brother Gary is also a former NHL player.
Career
Ken Yaremchuk began his career with the Portland Winter Hawks , for whom he played from 1980 to 1983 in the Western Hockey League . During this time he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft 1982 in the first round as the seventh player by the Chicago Blackhawks , for whom he played for three years in the National Hockey League . He was also used seven times with the Milwaukee Admirals in the International Hockey League . On September 6, 1986, the Toronto Maple Leafs signed him along with Jérôme Dupont and Chicago's four-round suffrage in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft , as the Blackhawks had previously committed Toronto's Gary Nylund as a free agent .
The attacker went on the ice for the Maple Leafs until 1989, but mainly for their farm team at the time , the Newmarket Saints from the American Hockey League . After the end of his contract, Yaremchuk moved to Europe , where he first played for HC Asiago from the Italian Serie A in 1989/90 . He then moved to the Swiss National League A , where he played for a total of nine years and ended his career. The Canadian was in the EV Zug squad from 1990 to 1996 , then for two years at HC Davos and most recently in the 1998/99 season at SC Rapperswil-Jona .
International
With the Canadian national team Yaremchuk took part in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , where he was used eight times and scored six points, including three goals. He also played for his country between 1987 and 1993.
