The municipality of Neulewin is administered by the Barnim-Oderbruch Office. Kerstenbruch was an independent municipality until it was incorporated into the Neulewin municipality in 1974.

Geographical location

The village is two kilometers north of Neulewin, directly north of the Alte Oder .

history

Kerstenbruch was built after the Oderbruch was drained from the year 1753. At that time there were four large farms and twelve small farms in the village. In 1780 a prayer house was built. Between 1799 and 1802 a brewery, a distillery, a forge and a school house were built. The brick factory was expanded. Only the remains of a field fire oven are left of the brickworks. In 1822 the village burned down almost completely, it was rebuilt with massive houses.

In 1842 a new school and prayer house was built. In 1900 225 people lived here. In 1911 the Oderbruch Railway was built, and Kerstenbruch also received a train station. Passenger traffic was stopped in 1966 and the railway line was dismantled. After the Second World War , the LPG "Philipp Müller" was founded in 1953 , and another LPG was established in 1960.

Special structures

  • The former field fire oven is located east of the village in an open field. It was probably built around 1800. It is the last field fire furnace in Brandenburg.
  • The granary was probably built from 1799 to 1802 near the Alte Oder as part of the estate. There was a small port here on the Alte Oder, which was still navigable at the time. The storage facility was used to store agricultural products. The arrangement of the hatches suggests three levels in the attic. The granary has a half-hip roof , with gates on each side of the eaves .
