Ketzür is a district of the Beetzseeheide community, founded in 2002 with the villages of Butzow and Gortz , in the north of the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in Brandenburg .

geography

Ketzür is located on the north bank of the central lake basin of the Beetzsee , about seven to ten kilometers northeast of Brandenburg an der Havel . The district is 10.19 square kilometers and has about 260 inhabitants. To the north of the village lies a chain of ice age hills with the elevations Mosesberg and Mühlberg. It is joined to the southeast by a boggy wetland, the Todtlaake , which formed in an ice age meltwater channel. There are several so-called inland salt points in it , so that it is characterized by typical salt marshes .

history

Until January 31, 2002, Ketzür was an independent street village, in the municipal area reform it was merged with two neighboring municipalities to form the new municipality of Beetzseeheide.

Surname

The name is of Slavic origin and describes a "place where there are hangovers". Reinhard E. Fischer states, however, that the name was rather given to a plant that was metaphorically named after the animal.

Attractions

The Ketzür post mill , which can be seen from afar and is a listed building, stands on the Mühlfeld above the village . The mill was completely restored in 2005 and 2006.

Epitaph in the choir of the village church

The village church of Ketzür is an old church with elements from different building periods. A tower (plastered building) is followed by a heptagonal central building from the second half of the 13th century with an artistically painted beamed ceiling. The rectangular choir has a Renaissance gable. The north wall of the interior of the church has been occupied by the sculptor Christoph Dehne from Magdeburg (1580–1640), a monumental alabaster epitaph carried by Adam and Eve with the Heino von Broesigke family of nine since the beginning of the 17th century . Since rainwater threatens to destroy the church, among other things, the German Foundation for Monument Protection supports work to preserve it.

Opposite the church is the Ketzür manor of the von Broesegke family , which was built in the 16th century . In addition to the church and manor house, there are four historically valuable residential buildings and farmsteads ( Dorfstrasse 29 , Dorfstrasse 30 , Dorfstrasse 31 and Unter den Linden 11 ) as well as a brick-paved road north of the town in the state's list of monuments.
