Khalil Abi-Nader

Khalil Abi-Nader , also Khalil Abinader , (born December 6, 1921 in Mtein , Lebanon , † June 13, 2009 ) was the Maronite Archbishop of the Archeparchy of Beirut .

Life

Khalil Abi-Nader came from the well-known Lebanese family Abi Nader and was in the government of Lebanon Mountain in Mtein (District al-Mitn born). On June 29, 1947, at the age of 25, he was ordained a priest in the Archeparchy of Beirut . He was a teacher at the La Sagesse school in Beirut, later its director in Beirut and Jdeidé.

On April 4, 1986, he was named Archbishop of the Archeparch. The solemn episcopal ordination took place on May 18, 1986. The main consecrator was the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and the whole of the East Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir . Bishops Chucrallah Harb and Roland Aboujaoudé acted as co- consecrators . As archbishop Abi-Nader acted as co-consecrator in the episcopal ordinations of Abdallah Bared , Antoine Torbey , Paul-Emile Saadé and Béchara Raï . At the age of 74, he gave up his post on June 8, 1996.

Abi-Nader was kidnapped several times, but repeatedly released following interventions by various politicians. Together with Imam Musa as-Sadr , he was committed to an understanding between the two religions in Lebanon. During the military clashes between the Forces Libanaises (FL) and the regular Lebanese army, he committed his life to ceasefire. He was also one of the key representatives of Lebanese society for the preservation of Francophonie in Lebanon.
