Paul Kimiti

Paul Peter Kimiti (born January 15, 1940 ) is a Tanzanian politician of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), who was Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives between 1995 and 1998 and Minister of Labor, Employment and Youth Development from 1998 to 2000.

Life

Kimiti was a field assistant at the Ministry of Agriculture between 1959 and 1961 and also a teacher at the village school of Ukiriguru from 1959 to 1965 . At the same time he completed an agriculture course at the Tengeru Agricultural Training Institute from 1961 to 1962 and a course in the Netherlands between 1962 and 1965 , which he completed with a diploma. He then worked as a tutor at the Ukiriguru Agricultural Institute between 1965 and 1969, during which time he acquired further agricultural science courses in the Netherlands and Italy . In 1969 he moved to the headquarters of the then Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) and was assistant secretary there until 1973. While there, he completed a course for the labor movement in the GDR in 1970 and a course for the cooperative movement in the People's Republic of Bulgaria in 1972 . In 1973 he began an undergraduate degree in agricultural science at California Polytechnic State University , which he completed in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Agriculture).

Upon his return, Kimiti was rector of the Agricultural Training Institute in Uyole from 1975 to 1979 and was also active as chairman of the TANU in Uyole from 1975 to 1977. In addition, from 1975 to 1976 he completed postgraduate studies in agricultural sciences at California Polytechnic State University, which he completed with a Master of Science degree (M.Sc. Agriculture). After the union of the TANU with the Afro-Shirazi Party (ASP) in 1977 he became a member of the newly formed party of the revolution CCM ( Chama Cha Mapinduzi ) and became its chairman in Uyole. Between 1979 and 1982 he was rector of the Agricultural Institute of Nyegezi and then from 1982 and 1984 Minister in the office of Prime Minister Cleopa David Msuya and his successor Edward Moringe Sokoine (1983 to 1984). He then held the post of regional commissioner for the Kilimanjaro region between 1984 and 1989 and in 1987 also became a member of the National Executive Committee of the CCM. He also served as regional commissioner for the Kagera region from 1989 to 1991 and as regional commissioner for the Mbeya region from 1991 to 1995 . In 1995 Kimiti took over the post of Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye and held this position until 1998. As part of this cabinet reshuffle, he became Minister for Labor, Employment and Youth Development in the Sumaye Cabinet in 1998 and held this office until 2000. On October 29, 2000 he was elected for the first time as a member of the National Assembly for the CCM and represented the constituency of Sumbawanga Mjini until October 30, 2010 .
