Kimmo Muurinen (born February 23, 1981 in Vantaa , Finland ) was a Finnish basketball player . The 2.03 m tall and 102 kg heavy Finnish national player played on the position of the power forward and was under contract with the Skyliners Frankfurt in the 2010/11 BBL season . In his home country he was twice Finnish champion with the Espoon Honka and so far once with the Nilan bison from Loimaa after his return to Finland in 2012.

Career

After two championships with Espoon Honka, the Finnish international Muurinen moved to Italy in 2009 , where he played in the Lega Basket Serie A first for the club Martos from Naples and after its bankruptcy for the Campanian rival from Scafati . In the following season 2010/11, he reached the semi-finals of the championship play-offs , in which they were eliminated in just five games against ALBA Berlin, with the German runner-up of the pre-season Skyliners from Frankfurt as second in regular time .

At the EM 2011 , after 16 years of abstinence with Muurinen, in an additional qualifying round as one of the last two teams for the increased field of participants , the Finnish national team was able to qualify for the first time again for a qualifying round in which they then surprisingly qualified for the intermediate round of the top twelve teams . The defeat in the last intermediate round match against Slovenia prevented the best eight teams from reaching the quarter-finals. Two years later you could repeat this success and place yourself again among the ten best European teams. At that time, Muurinen was already playing in his native Finland. After a season at Torpan Pojat from the capital Helsinki , he switched to the master Nilan Bisons from Loimaa for the 2012/13 season , with whom he was able to defend their title win in 2013.
