Barchfeld Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Barchfeld is located at Nürnberger Straße 58 in Barchfeld , the larger district of the Barchfeld-Immelborn community in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .

Organization of the parish

The Barchfeld rectory supplies the Protestant parishes in Barchfeld and Herrenbreitungen , each of which has its own church. These parishes are part of the Werratal / Brotterode region in the Am Großen Inselsberg area . Due to the fact that Barchfeld belonged to the Schmalkalden lordship , which was part of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel from 1583 , they belong to the Schmalkalden parish of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck . The district of Immelborn is supplied by the parish office of the Meiningen-Suhl provost of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

A first predecessor chapel in Breitungen / Werra is documented for the 8th century. It was raised to the parish church of Mark Breitungen in 939 , the church in Barchfeld was probably its subsidiary church . A major fire on September 12, 1749 completely destroyed the church in Barchfeld. The reconstruction began immediately, three years later a new church stood on the site of the burned down church. The year 1752 is given on the portals of the church.

Building description

The hall church, which is covered with a hipped gable roof , is made of quarry stone masonry with corner stones , as is the retracted bell tower in the east. A slightly curved, slate pyramid roof sits on the tower . It is crowned with a lantern in which the belfry is located. The tower clock belonging to bells and chimes was made in 1786.

The nave is provided with a flat ceiling, which are decorated with decorative coves . The interior is surrounded by two-storey wooden galleries . The patronage box for the von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld family with a stucco ceiling on the lower west gallery shows the Hessian coat of arms with the year 1754.

Furnishing

The organ prospect from the mid-18th century stands above the richly decorated pulpit altar . A new organ was installed in it in 1910 .
