The St. Adalbert Church in Gawrzyjałki is a building from the beginning of the 20th century. Until 1945 it was the central church of the Protestant parish Gawrzialken (1928 to 1945: Wilhelmsthal, Dorf) in East Prussia and today serves as the Roman Catholic parish church in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .
Geographical location
Gawrzyjałki is located southeast of the district town of Szczytno ( Ortelsburg in German ) on a side road that branches off the Polish state road 53 (formerly German Reichsstraße 134 ) at Olszyny (Olschienen , 1938 to 1945 Ebendorf) and via Pużary ( Wilhelmsthal , Gut) to Lipowiec (Lipowitz , 1933 to 1945 Lindenort) .
The church is in the north of the village on the west side of the main road.
Church building
The foundation stone for the construction of the church in Gawrzialken was laid in May of 1907. After a year and a half of construction, the church was inaugurated on October 8, 1908.
The church was built based on the brick Gothic of the Teutonic Order .
In the interior there is a gallery next to the organ gallery on the north side . The sanctuary is the nave separated by steps. The once simple altar has recently been given a half-height tower, but it still gives a view of a round window with stained glass depicting the risen Christ . The pulpit is outside the sanctuary.
The church peal consists of two bells .
After 1945 the church was structurally adapted for the changed Catholic liturgical custom. In 1980 it was given to the Roman Catholic Church, which rededicated it and dedicated it to the bishop and martyr Adalbert of Prague .

Church history
When the village was founded in 1788, Gawrzialen was incorporated into the Protestant parish of Fürstenwalde ( Księży Lasek in Polish ). Then around 1880 the village was assigned to the parish of Klein Jerutten ( Jerutki in Polish ). In 1895, the independent parish Gawrzialken was established, which was officially confirmed in 1901. At first, the services were held alternately in the schools of Gawrzialken and Bialygrund (1934 to 1945 Weißengrund , Polish Biały Grunt ) before they could take place in the newly built parish church from 1908 .
The Gawrzialken parish was without church patronage . In 1925 there were 1,672 parishioners, most of whom lived in the surrounding villages, towns and places of residence. Until 1945, the community belonged to the superintendent district of Ortelsburg in the parish of Ortelsburg within the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union .
Flight and expulsion of the local population brought evangelical life to a standstill after 1945. Protestant church members living here today belong to the parish in Szczytno within the Masuria diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Roman Catholic
Before 1945, the Roman Catholic church members in the Gawrzialken region of Lipowitz (1933 to 1945 Lindenort , Lipowiec in Polish ) were parish in the Diocese of Warmia . After 1945, new Polish citizens settled here, almost all of whom were Catholic. They used the previously evangelical church as their place of worship, which was then given to them in 1980. On June 19, 1982, the church established its own parish here , which today belongs to the Rozogi (Friedrichshof) deanery in what is now the Archdiocese of Warmia . The parish, which like the church bears the name of Adalbert von Prag , is assigned the Olszyny (Olschienen , 1938 to 1945 Ebendorf) branch .
