Kyrgyz dowry ( Russian Сундук предков , Sunduk predkov ) is a Russian film by Nurbek Egen from 2005. The film premiered in Germany on March 7, 2006 on Arte .

For children from Kyrgyzstan , a dowry is collected in a heavy wooden chest soon after their birth . For their marriage, the Kyrgyz couples are provided with money and items from the family property. Aïdar, a young man who is professionally successful in Paris and fell in love there, can also fall back on this privilege. To receive the dowry at his parents' house, he and his friend Isabelle, a cheerful French woman, set out on their way to his village in the Kyrgyz mountains. However, they state that the dowry also includes the obligation to custom and tradition. Despite the hospitality of the family and the villagers, Aïdar realizes that it will not be easy to evade parents' expectations.

The lexicon of international films judged: "First film about the conflict between tradition and modernity, which through colorful, stylized metaphors is turning into an entertainment film and thereby loses respect for its subject in ethnographic disrespect."
Awards
The film won the audience award at the Cottbus Film Festival in 2006 and a special prize at the Young Artist Awards . In 2007, the Wiesbaden Film Evaluation Board also awarded the film the rating of “valuable”.
