Kirill Andrejewitsch Petrov ( Russian Кирилл Андреевич Петров ; English transcription: Kirill Petrov ; born April 13, 1990 in Kazan , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Ak Bars Kazan in the Continental Hockey League again since May 2019 .
Career
Kirill Petrov began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth of Ak Bars Kazan , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Russian Super League in the 2006/07 season . Ak Bars lost to HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the final in 2007 . In the 2008/09 season Kazan won the Gagarin Cup for the first time in the newly formed Continental Hockey League , where Petrov was used in six games and scored one goal. The following year he was able to win the Gagarin Cup again with Ak Bars Kazan, this time also in three playoff games.
After he had started the 2010/11 season in Kazan, Petrow moved after two season appearances within the KHL to the newly promoted HK Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk , where he was able to fight for a regular place. In June 2011 he returned to his hometown club. After another four seasons in the KHL, Petrov signed a contract with the New York Islanders from the National Hockey League (NHL), who drafted him in 2008, in June 2015 . The Islanders gave it to their farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers from the American Hockey League , for which Petrov had played 13 games by December. On December 20, the Islanders announced that the Russian would return to Ak Bars Kazan on loan until the end of the season. Kazan, who at that time owned the KHL rights to Petrov, gave it to CSKA Moscow in exchange for Stanislav Galimov .
Petrov was under contract with CSKA until May 2018 when he was transferred to HK Awangard Omsk in exchange for the transfer rights to Filip Karlsson .
