Career
Patrice Cormier began his career as an ice hockey player with the Moncton Gagnon Beavers in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League , for which he went on the ice from 2004 to 2006. Cormier then moved to L'Océanic de Rimouski , for which he was active from 2006 to 2010 in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the second round as a total of 54th player by the New Jersey Devils , but remained in Rimouski. On January 8, 2010, the center moved to the Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda within the LHJMQ . In his third game for the Huskies, he intentionally injured his opponent Mikael Tam on January 18, 2010 with an elbow check, for which he was suspended for the rest of the regular season and the entire playoffs from the LHJMQ's game operations.
On February 4, 2010, Cormier was transferred to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for Ilya Kowaltschuk and Anssi Salmela, along with Johnny Oduya and Niclas Bergfors , as well as a first-round vote for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft . For their farm team , the Chicago Wolves , the left-handed shooter made his professional ice hockey debut in the Calder Cup playoffs of the 2009/10 season . In nine games he stayed without points and received eight penalty minutes. He also began the 2010/11 season with the Chicago Wolves and was appointed to the NHL roster of the Atlanta Thrashers for the first time during the season, for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League on December 28, 2010 and in his sixth match against the Toronto Maple Leafs scored its first goal.
Even after the Thrashers had moved to Winnipeg , Cormier was mainly used in the AHL for St. John's IceCaps and only sporadically in the NHL for the Jets. From 2016 he was firmly under contract with the Manitoba Moose in the AHL and was team captain there .
For the 2018/19 season he moved to Kazakhstan to Barys Astana in the Continental Hockey League .
International
For Canada , Cormier took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 2009 and 2010 . At the U20 World Cup in 2010 he won the silver medal with his team, a year earlier he was U20 junior world champion with Canada. He himself contributed to these successes with three goals and five assists in twelve games. He was also the team captain of Canada at the 2010 U20 World Cup.
