Kisljar ( Russian Кизля́р ; Ossetian Хъызлар ; unofficially Kumyk Гучукюрт , Gutschukjurt ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania in Russia with 10,813 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). geography

The place is located in the foothills of the Caucasus about 75 km as the crow flies north of the republic capital Vladikavkaz on the right bank of the Terek .

Kizlyar belongs to Rajon Mosdokski and is located approximately 6 km southwest of the administrative center of Mozdok . The village is the seat and only locality of the rural community Kislyarskoje selskoje posselenije. Over 98% of the residents are Kumyks .

history

The place was founded in 1751 by a Circassian ( Kabardian ) prince in the "Little Kabarda". After the (Russified) name of the princely family Bekowitsch-Cherkasski, it received the official name Bekowitschewo (also Bekowitschi ). Due to the partly Kumyk origin of the princes and at their instigation, a significant part of the Mosdoker or in the broader sense “Terek-Kumyken”, the most north-western part of the ethnic group, settled there. They called the village Guchukyurt, but this never became official. From the establishment of Nizhneje Bekowitschewo ("Nieder-Bekowitschewo", today Kijewskoje ) by Russian resettlers about 4 km east in 1901, the village was called Verkhneje Bekowitschewo ("Ober-Bekowitschewo").

After the October Revolution , most of the towns named after Kabardian princes were renamed, here in Kisljar. The village belonged to the Kabardino-Balkarian ASSR until 1944 and was then given over to the North Ossetian ASSR with the entire Rajon .
