Kittitas is a city in Kittitas County and is located in Washington state in the United States .
geography
The city is located about 250 kilometers southwest of Spokane , 150 kilometers southeast of Seattle , 10 kilometers west of Ellensburg and directly on the Interstate-90 highway.
history
The name of the city goes back to the indigenous people of the Kittitas - Indians who live there and belong to the Yakama . In 1847 the Pacific Railroad was founded, which also ran through what is now Kittitas. The place was soon created as a supply depot for the railway line. The Milwaukee Road connected the surrounding region with large parts of the country. From 1905 a connection was established over the cascade chain between Chicago and Seattle. However, since 1980 only the Midwest has been served.
Today, the city is the starting point or transit point for tours on foot, by horse, by bicycle or mountain bike from Cle Elum Lake, 50 kilometers away, and along the John Wayne Pioneer Trail through very varied terrain to Idaho .
