Klang (also Kelang ) is a city in the Malaysian state of Selangor and the royal residence of Sultan Selangor. It is 32 km west of Kuala Lumpur and east of Port Klang and is traversed by the Klang .
The city has three seats in parliament, all representatives belong to the Barisan Nasional .
location
Klang is located immediately west of Shah Alam in the Klang district of Selangor State and extends to the Strait of Malacca in the west. On the coast is Port Klang, a major seaport .
history
Klang is considered to be one of the oldest settlements in Malaysia. Finds from the Bronze and Iron Ages show that the area was already inhabited 2000 years ago. Written evidence goes back to the time of the Majapahit .
Between 1867 and 1874, the city and its surroundings were the scene of the Sound War, a dispute between two local princes. Between 1880 and 1889 it was the capital of Selangor, replaced by Kuala Lumpur, and later again from 1974 to 1977, replaced by Shah Alam .
In 1971, the Klang district was created, which also includes Kapar and Meru .

In 2010, 744,062 people lived in Klang, 10,445 of them in the city center . The entire district of Klang has 842,146 inhabitants. Part of the state capital Shah Alam is also in the Klang district. Otherwise, Klang itself takes up a large part of the Klang district.

Klang is the headquarters of Top Glove , one of the world's leading glove manufacturers.
