The Klangstation was a concert, theater and lecture hall with attached restaurant in the historical and partially under monument protection standing railway station of Bad Godesberg .

History and program concept

For many years, the premises were used as a train station restaurant until the Bonner Rockmusiker Association (VBR) took over the premises and completely renovated it. An event hall with a capacity of around 100 people (with row seating, around 300 without seats) with lighting and sound technology appropriate to the size of the room, a bistro-style restaurant and a number of rehearsal rooms for music bands affiliated to the VBR on the upper floor of the building were created. "Sound station" was chosen as the name. The office was in the Hansa House a few hundred meters away .

After the insolvency of the VBR in 2002 , the now run down sound station was first transferred to a private operating couple, then - after legal and cultural-political disputes over the former funding of the VBR eV - to the new tenants Christoph Bergerhausen and Gunnar Grau. In front of and behind the scenes, they organized a rebuilding, both technically / spatially as well as organizationally and programmatically and - without public funding.

During this time, the sound station served - in addition to renting it to several local up-and-coming bands and catering - as a venue for various events, mostly tailored to a young audience, such as rock and pop concerts , jazz and blues sessions and themed parties, but also for theater events, Readings, classical concerts in small cast and puppet shows for children. The special aim of the sound station was to promote the next generation of musicians and to enrich the Bad Godesberg district of Bonn, which was greatly changed by the Bonn / Berlin move . In accordance with the concept based on the work of the VBR (amalgamation of international touring with local culture and the promotion of young talent), the Klangstation employed up to three trainees in the areas of event technology and management during this time; a total of six young people were trained from 2002 to 2007.

The artists and groups that have performed at the Klangstation include Children of Bodom , Michael Holm , Voltaire , Extrabreit , Schandmaul , Eric Fish , Brian Auger , The Toasters , Schelmish , Knorkator , All in the Closet , The Slapstickers , Konstantin Gockel , Peter Hein , and the Piccolo puppet shows . Furthermore, it served as a venue for numerous musical young talent projects such as B. "Jugend jazzt", the Toys2Masters band contest or the school band competition Popmotor initiated by Christoph Bergerhausen .

The sound station had to cease operations at the end of 2007 because Deutsche Bahn did not extend the expiring lease. In the late summer of 2008, the location was reopened after a renovation as a venue for dance events without catering.
