Schelmish was a medieval rock band from Bonn . The band was founded in 1999 on the occasion of Des Demonia's mother's birthday (band member) and disbanded on December 15, 2012 in the Bridge Forum in Bonn . The language of the songs varies between German, English, French, Latin and ancient languages.
Band history
Musically, Schelmish has its roots in Irish folk . Today they are most likely to be assigned to "medieval (punk) rock".
Schelmish's first CD is called Von Räubern, Lumpen und other Schelmen and was released in 2000. Schelmish's original line-up can be found on this CD. The CD consists of traditional, medieval songs, as does the second CD Aequinoctium (2001).
2002 appeared with Codex Lascivus , on which the band's own pieces can be found for the first time. The fourth CD was Tempus mutatur (2003). What is special about this is Tempus mutatur is a bonus track that also used electric guitars and bass. Guest singer with Veris Dulcis and Le pôvre Villon is Michael Robert Rhein from In Extremo . The year of publication is 2003.
After the four studio albums by Schelmish, the maxi single Si salvas me was released , which contains three versions of Si salves me , the hymn of Satzvey Castle , and one other track. The maxi single, which was released in 2003, is a foretaste of the subsequent studio album Igni Gena , as the track Si salvas me can be found on this. Since this CD, Luzi the L has been with Schelmish, Baccata left Schelmish for health reasons.
With the fifth CD, Igni Gena , from 2004, you can see that the rhythm is significantly faster than on the previous albums. There is also a piece with a touch of hip-hop / rap - Ich was ein Chint - which is a variation of the medieval Ich was a Chint from the Carmina Burana . The guest singer on this song is again Michael Rhein from In Extremo. A cover version of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire with medieval instruments and vocals by Dextro is also included.
In 2005 Schelmish complied with the request for a live CD and a live CD called Schelmish - Live was released . The CD contains the complete live performance including the intro and announcements from the Kulturfabrik Krefeld on January 29, 2005. The guest performer is Filia Irata's red vixen . Amsel von Nydeggen is no longer part of this live CD.
Her first DVD , Coetus , was released two months later . In addition to performances from the KuFa Krefeld (Live CD), it also includes other performances from various tours (including with the last unicorn and Flex the flexible one from In Extremo), two music videos as a foretaste of the following CD Mente Capti , numerous interviews , CD previews , Photos, Easter eggs and a film about rogue. In addition, this DVD is also a farewell project for Amsel von Nydeggen. She can be seen on older tour appearances and in the feature film. Filia Irata's red vixen can also be seen in the film.
Mente Capti is the name of the sixth studio album, which was released in July 2006. For the first time since Codex Lascivus , the band consisted of eight members again, as they were again completed by the guitarist Marquis de Guis and the bassist Naj O, the pure (later replaced by Johannes, the drunkard). While songs with medieval instruments were played almost exclusively on the previous albums, this time songs with rock instruments, i.e. electric guitars , drums and electric bass , were in the foreground with Mente Capti . In this way, old songs were reinterpreted (raven ballad), but also new songs and texts were written that deal with love and sadness (White Fetters, The Last Kiss) and fun (Pank!). This time the vocals were mainly taken over by Rimsbold, while Dextro and Fragor concentrated more on stringed instruments, Luzi and Des Demonia on wind instruments and Sakepharus on the drums.
In early 2007 Sakepharus left the band and withdrew into his family life. His departure was announced two months in advance, and Dschieses and Picus (from Vivus temporis , who had just split up) joined the band as new members at the same time . Johannes the drunkard also left the band on June 30, 2007 and was replaced on bass by Sideribus illustris.
On October 19, 2007, the band's seventh album, Wir wird haben , was released and a tour started. Moor was released as a single in September , which contains two tracks from the CD and two tracks that are not on the album.
At the beginning of 2008 Dschieses and Sidberibus left the band due to lack of time. Her successors were Samtron on drums and Alexis de la Vega on bass. After almost seven years, Fragor left the band in April 2008. After he was only present at medieval performances and no longer at rock concerts in 2007, he finally withdrew into his private life. He was also succeeded by Samtron. Further personnel changes followed. Guitarist Marquis de Guis left the band for family reasons and was replaced by Daniel San. Bassist Alexis de la Vega was also unable to devote the necessary time to the band for professional reasons. The Shark was his successor. In addition, there was a change in the hard core of Schelmish for the first time since the founding: Rimsbold von Tiefentann could only play the rock program for time reasons, in the medieval program Schelmish continued as a quintet with only three bagpipers.
At the beginning of 2009, work began on the album The Ugly Children , which was released in October. Daniel San and Der Hai left the band two weeks before the tour started, whereupon Schelmish were forced to find new musicians in a very short time to be able to carry out the tour. Okusa the beefy (Patrick Lange, formerly with Tanzwut and Corvus Corax ) and Der Zahl accepted the challenge and played the tour with Schelmish. Both decided to stay with Schelmish and play guitar and bass from now on. Samtron left the Middle Ages and handed over the drums to Patrick in order to only be part of the rock formation.
In April 2010 the new studio album Persona non grata was released , on which the band would like to continue the medieval path for the first time since Igni Gena . It was only offered at concerts, as a download and for online ordering, but not in specialist shops. In the meantime Samtron has also withdrawn from the band due to time constraints, his successor on drums is Danu, who was used for the first time at the Wacken Open Air 2010.
At the end of 2010, after more than seven years of working together for private reasons, Luzi das L announced that he would be leaving, who has been a new member of Saltatio Mortis since spring 2011 . Okusa the beefy left the band too, due to the physical distance to the rest of the band. The positions that had become vacant in the medieval program were then taken over again by Rimsbold and Danu.
At the end of 2012 the band broke up and re-founded as InVictus.
