Klaus Arnold (painter)

Klaus Arnold (born May 18, 1928 in Heidelberg ; † September 22, 2009 in Karlsruhe ) was a German sculptor , painter and former rector of the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe .

Life

Arnold studied from 1945 to 1954 at the art academies in Düsseldorf, Munich and Karlsruhe. In 1960 he was appointed to the Karlsruhe Art Academy and soon afterwards appointed professor . From 1976 to 1988 he headed the Karlsruhe Art Academy as rector. Under his leadership, the reputation of the Karlsruhe Academy as a "painters' academy" was consolidated by appointing internationally renowned painters to teaching, such as Markus Lüpertz and Georg Baselitz . He volunteered as a board member in the Künstlerbund Baden-Württemberg and was later made an honorary member. Arnold last lived in Karlsruhe , Baden-Württemberg .

Arnold became known for his sculptures that combined plant-like shapes into abstract spatial ornaments . Many of these works were also realized as art-in-building projects, e.g. B. Fountains in the University of Konstanz and in the courtyard of the University of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, a group of light bodies in the hall of the University of Bremen and the windows of the Luther Church in Karlsruhe. Arnold later turned to painting in the style of Neo-Impressionism . He often took his topics from everyday life, especially the leisure area. He mainly worked in the technique of wax emulsion and egg tempera painting.
