Klaus Fröhlich (Manager)

Klaus Fröhlich (born June 1960 in Soest ) is a German manager and was a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG from December 9, 2014 to June 30, 2020 . There he was responsible for development.

Life

After graduating from high school, Fröhlich began studying mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University in 1981 , which he completed in 1987 as a graduate engineer .

Act

On July 1, 1987, he joined BMW AG as a development engineer for engine development (gas exchange). In 1993 he was promoted to Head of Basic Development V8 Engines and headed this area for two years. After BMW took over the Rover Group in 1994 , he became project manager for the Rover engine program in 1995. In 1996 he took on the role of Chief Engineer Project Forward 4 × 4 Land Rover (UK) . From 1998 to 1999 he was Head of Alternative Combustion Process Development . In the following 15 years he headed various departments and divisions within the BMW Group. On December 9, 2014, he was finally appointed to the Board of Management of BMW AG, succeeding the previous Head of Development, Herbert Diess , who moved to VW on the Board of Management in July 2015.

Electromobility and Apple Car

According to press reports, he sees a focus of his work in the further development of electric mobility . In connection with a possible electric car from Apple - the so-called Apple Car - there has been constant speculation about a possible collaboration with BMW. However, Fröhlich countered these speculations with his statements on the subject in March 2015.

Fröhlich has been married since November 1987 and has one son and three daughters.
