Klaus Harries

Klaus Harries (born January 27, 1929 in Celle ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was senior district director of the Lüneburg district and a member of the German Bundestag  (MP).

Life and work

Klaus Harries is an Evangelical Lutheran , married and has one daughter. He was born on January 27, 1929 in Celle and grew up in Göttingen . There he graduated from high school in 1948 . Harries then studied law at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . He completed his studies with the first and second state examination. Before starting his political activities as a member of the Bundestag, Klaus Harries was senior district director of the Lüneburg district from 1968 to 1987.

Political party

Klaus Harries says he has been a member of the CDU since 1965. Kürschner's People's Handbook mentions 1970 as the year he joined. He belongs to the medium-sized and business association of the CDU / CSU . From 1987 to 1992 Harries was district chairman of the CDU district association Lüneburg. The district association has awarded him honorary membership for particularly meritorious work.

MP

Klaus Harries represented the Lüchow-Dannenberg-Lüneburg constituency in the German Bundestag from 1987 to 1994 in the 11th and 12th electoral periods as a directly elected member . He belonged to the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. Harries was a member of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Committee for eight years . He was rapporteur for the group on nuclear energy issues and was also a member of the "Transnuclear" committee of inquiry . In the 12th electoral term he was a member of the Enquête Commission "Protection of the Earth's Atmosphere".

According to Harries, becoming a member of the Bundestag was not his goal. At the time, he was asked to run by fellow party members and agreed after a period of reflection. In retrospect, Klaus Harries describes himself as a backbencher who has done useful and recognized political work. The job was exciting and fulfilling. He does not regret the eight years of membership.

Memberships

Klaus Harries was a member of the German Association of Officials . He is involved in the riding and driving club Lüneburg (→ German Equestrian Association ). Until 2008 he was its chairman for many years. He has been honorary chairman of the association since 2008.

politics

Klaus Harries rejected the APO movement in the 1960s and supported the CDU. During the time he was a member of the German Bundestag, the vote on the seat of the German Bundestag after reunification , the question of the treatment of the large landowners expropriated in the Soviet occupation zone and the controversy over abortion took place . In the capital city resolution, Harries voted on June 20, 1991 in favor of the motion “Complete the unity of Germany” and the relocation of the Bundestag seat from Bonn to Berlin . In the vote on the Pregnancy and Family Assistance Act on June 25, 1992, he voted in favor of the deadline regulation with mandatory advice. In the debate on how to deal with the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone, Harries claims to belong to a minority in the CDU / CSU parliamentary group at the time, which advocated fair reparation by compensating the expropriated landowners.
