Klaus Holderbaum

Klaus Holderbaum (born November 14, 1938 in Berlin ) is a former German diplomat who was ambassador to Mali between 1986 and 1991 , ambassador to Cameroon from 1995 to 1999 and most recently from 1999 to 2003 ambassador to Uganda .

Life

Son of a bank employee who returned from Berlin to his home village on the Moselle after the Second World War . In 1949 the family moved to Frankfurt am Main . After graduating from high school, Holderbaum began studying law and economics , which he completed with the first state examination in law. After completing his legal clerkship , he passed the second state examination in law.

In 1970 Holderbaum began his preparatory service for the higher foreign service and between 1970 and 1971 was in a practical training phase as an attaché at the embassy in the United Kingdom . After completing his career examination, he first became Legation Secretary in 1972 and, on December 1, 1972, Legation Councilor in the General International Law Department of the Foreign Office in Bonn . Afterwards, Holderbaum joined the embassy in Zambia in 1974 and worked there until 1977. After a renewed assignment in the Foreign Office from 1977 to 1980, he worked at the Embassy in Ivory Coast between 1980 and 1983 before returning to the headquarters of the Foreign Office between 1983 and 1986.

In 1986 Holderbaum became ambassador to Mali and remained in this position until he was replaced by Hans-Henning Bruhn in 1991. He then acted from 1991 to 1995 in the rank of Lecturer Legation Council, First Class, as head of the Humanitarian Aid Task Force in the Foreign Office. In addition, he taught in the winter semester of 1994/95 as a lecturer at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). In 1995 he became ambassador to Cameroon and held this office until 1999. At the same time, he was also accredited as an ambassador to Equatorial Guinea and Chad . In the summer semester of 1996, he also taught as a lecturer at the Ruhr University in Bochum.

Holderbaum was last appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Uganda in 1999 as the successor to Hans-Joachim Heldt . In 2003 he retired and was then replaced by Alexander Mühlen .

After his retirement he settled in Uganda and was in 2012 the President of Uganda , Yoweri Museveni appointed to the consultant for tourism. Holderbaum is also involved as a board member for Uganda in the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award program initiated by Philip, Duke of Edinburgh .
