Wohlerst ( Low German Wohlers ) is a district of the municipality of Brest in the Stade district ( Lower Saxony ). The hamlet of Klein-Wohlerst also belongs to Wohlerst .

history
It was first mentioned in documents in 970 and celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 1970.
Regional affiliation
Before 1885 Wohlerst belonged to Börde Bargstedt in the district of Harsefeld , after 1885 to the district of Stade and since 1932 to today's district of Stade .
From 1964 to 1972 Wohlerst was a member of the integrated community of Bargstedt , but was incorporated into Brest on July 1, 1972. Brest is part of the Harsefeld municipality .

Culture
fire Department
The first plans to found a volunteer fire brigade were made in 1861. A water truck was made available by the Harsefeld office . In 1902 a compulsory fire brigade was founded in Wohlerst. In 1935 she became a volunteer fire department. In 1960/65 the fire station was built and a fire truck was purchased. In 1977 a women's group was set up. Before that, they had to go out to work with a tractor and hose cart.
Today the fire brigade consists of 30 active comrades and has a small fire engine .

The red rooster
From 1902 onwards, Wohlerst burned 27 times; nothing is known of previous fires. Eleven of these fires are the work of a former firefighter who worked for the farmer Kackmann. He was convicted of arson . He bought a peaked cap from the master tailor Junge shortly before he went to prison . He wrote to him from prison in 1966:
" Dear Mr. Junge, I found out that you got my fire brigade cap from Mr. Kackmann in Wohlerstech. In my opinion, you have no right to the cap, because I paid him the cap at the price of 15.50 DM . I ask for my cap or my money to be sent here. If you don't do that, I am forced to file a charge against him for fraud. If my cap or the money is binding for 8 days here in Stade / Elbe Am Wilhadikrichhoh 1 I am filing a charge against him for fraud. "
