history

The area around Kakerbeck was already settled in the Bronze Age; a Saxon earth house was excavated here by the archaeologist Willi Wegewitz . This can be found in the coat of arms of the municipality of Ahlerstedt. In addition, the Kakerbeck stone grave was located in the Kakerbecker Feldmark .

Place name

In 971 the place name was Kokerbiki , 1146 Cokerbiki and 1200 Cokerbeke . The place name is derived from coking river (changing river bed), which refers to the location on the floodplain .

Local history

Due to the favorable location on the Way of St. James ( Via Romea ), the oldest pilgrimage route in the Elbe-Weser triangle , which was described in an Icelandic travel guide in the 12th century and by Stade Abbot Albert in the 13th century , a settlement was established here. In Kakerbeck the glacial valley of the floodplain was very narrow, which offered good conditions for a crossing.

In 971 Kakerbeck was first mentioned in a document as Kokerbiki . It is very likely that Kakerbeck is as old as the Way of St. James.

A watermill was operated in Kakerbeck from the 17th century and a thatched grain windmill from 1860 . The watermill ceased operations in 1923 and fell into disrepair. The windmill was shut down in 1983.

From 1964 to 1970 Kakerbeck belonged as an independent municipality to the joint municipality of Bargstedt and from January 1, 1971 to July 1, 1972 to the joint municipality of Ahlerstedt . On July 1, 1972, Kakerbeck and Kakerbeck-Doosthof were incorporated into Ahlerstedt as part of the municipal reform in Lower Saxony .

Witch mountain

"Kakerbecker Witch"

The Kakerbecker Hexenberg is said to have been haunted earlier. The so-called Hexenberg was a prehistoric burial mound with a diameter of 22 m and a height of 3 m. The then still wooded area around the Hexenberg was cut down from 1896 and the mound was also removed; 700 loads of sand resulted in the erosion of the hill. A Saxon sword was found in the burial mound, but it was lost. Willi Wegewitz carefully examined the location of the burial mound. The hill was opposite the Kakerbeck intersection (coming from Kakerbeck); a round, dark spot with black carbonaceous earth can still be found there today. Maybe there was a stake there ; In any case, a fire must have taken place there, which permanently permeated the surface with ash.

50 m from the Hexenberg on the other side of the street, a monument in the form of a witch sculpture was set up on a roundabout.

Personalities

The former President of Indonesia , Jusuf Habibie , had a house on the floodplain in Kakerbeck .
