Klethen was first mentioned in a document in 1157.

In the 1920s, the archaeologist Willi Wegewitz carried out several excavations in the area of Klethens, including an old Saxon settlement.

Regional affiliation

Before 1885 Klethen was in the Harsefeld district , after 1885 in the Stade district and since 1932 in what is now the Stade district . As part of the municipality of Ottendorf-Klethen in the joint municipality of Ahlerstedt , Klethen was incorporated into Ahlerstedt on July 1, 1972.
