The Little Kokschaga ( Russian Малая Кокшага (Malaja Kokschaga), Mari Изи Какшан ) is a 194 km long left tributary of the Volga in the European part of Russia .
description
The Kleine Kokschaga rises near the village of Shura in the north of the Republic of Mari El , near the border with Kirov Oblast . It flows mostly in a southerly direction through agricultural areas.
Shortly after the confluence of the Große Oschla, it flows through Yoshkar-Ola , the capital of Mari Els. It meanders strongly in a southerly direction through the sparsely populated, heavily forested south of the republic.
In Uste-Kundysch its largest tributary, which flows Small Kundysch one. About 5 km east of Mariinsky Posad , the Kleine Kokschaga finally flows into the Volga, which is dammed up to form the Kuibyshev reservoir , which marks the border between the Mari El republic and Chuvashia .
The Kleine Kokschaga is frozen on average from November to April.
