The tips of the ears are three mountain peaks on the border between East Tyrol ( Austria ) and South Tyrol ( Italy ). The mountain range consists of the small ear tip ( 2938 m above sea level ), the middle ear tip ( 3005 m above sea level ) and the big ear tip ( 3101 m above sea level ) from west to east . The slopes sloping down towards South Tyrol are in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park , the East Tyrolean parts are protected in the Hohe Tauern National Park .
Increase opportunities
The climbs to the tips of the ears are unmarked and can only be reached by climbing at different levels of difficulty. The starting point for climbing the tips of the ears is usually the Barmer hut . An ascent via the Staller Sattel (Jägerscharte) or the Antholzer See (Riepenscharte) is also possible.
The Große Ohrenspitze can be climbed via the Remscheidscharte (also called Ohrenscharte) from the Barmer Hütte in about two hours of climbing. Some places have the second level of difficulty. Another way to climb to the Großer Ohrenspitze is three to four hours over the Jägerscharte. Here the ascent follows the ridge course, which has climbing points up to the fourth degree. The Kleine Ohrenspitze, an exposed peak, can be reached in two hours from the Riepenscharte with easy climbing of the first and second degree of difficulty. The middle ear tip can be climbed from the Remscheidscharte in about two hours. The climb has exposed and brittle climbing areas.
