The small fort "Am Eichkopf" was a Roman fort in the eastern Taunus and was part of the Upper German Limes , which was granted the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005 . Today's ground monument is located south of Langenhain-Ziegenberg , Ober-Mörlen district in the Hessian Wetteraukreis on the northern foothills of the Eichkopf on the edge of a former military training area.

Location and description

The remains of the fort are now only faintly visible in the area. A small quarry, which was built later, split its area into two parts. The site was examined by the Reich Limes Commission in 1896/97 . At that time, the trench in the east was 2.25 meters to 3.75 meters wide and between 0.70 meters and 1.30 meters deep. In the west it was 1.60 meters to 2.00 meters wide and 0.50 meters to 0.56 meters deep. The small fort is also counted as Wp 4/19 *.
