List of forts on the Upper German-Raetian Limes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of forts on the Upper German-Raetian Limes includes Roman military camps that were located on the Upper German-Raetian Limes .

The order refers to the route numbering (ORL 1-75), as determined by the Reichs-Limeskommission and documented in the standard work The Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes of the Roman Empire : From north on the Rhine to south on the Danube . Small forts and forts discovered after the commission's activities have ended have not been given a number.

Main Limes (ORL 6)

The Main Limes , also called Nasser Limes , was established around 90 AD and, as part of the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes, formed the border of the Roman Empire in the area between the present-day towns of Seligenstadt and Bürgstadt on the western bank of the Main. In this section the Limes meets the Main ( Moenus ) again, which formed a natural border in north-south direction over a length of about 50 kilometers. As far as Obernburg is part of the older Limes part ( Trajanian ), the Older Odenwald Line was first removed from Obernburg, before the southern part was moved forward to the Main in the middle of the 2nd century and the Younger Odenwald Line was created as a connection to the Front Limes.
