The church village Oberndorf is a district of the market Bad Abbach in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality.

geography

Oberndorf is a street village with a central branch on the right bank of the Danube , about two kilometers northwest of the main town Bad Abbach, along the Danube road from Bad Abbach to Großprüfening .

To the north, parallel to the built-up Donaustraße on both sides, there is a two-hundred-meter-wide strip of flat arable land, which then climbs steeply to the north to the vineyard . At the foot of the vineyard, a settlement road parallel to Donaustraße was created, Am Unteren Weinberg and Am Oberen Weinberg .

The canal of the Bad Abbach lock , which is located in the district of Oberndorf, runs parallel to the opposite bank of the Danube . The Bad Abbach traction power plant is located slightly above the lock .

history

At the Danube-Iller-Rhine-Limes the late Roman was burgus Oberndorf above the right bank of the Danube, as at today's river kilometer 2395.8. Oberndorf is an old winegrowing and fishing village. In 1007 it was donated by King Heinrich II with Ahebach (Bad Abbach) to the newly founded diocese of Bamberg . With a document dated to 1138, but not issued until 1224, it was placed under the jurisdiction of the convent , which it was subject to as Hofmark until the secularization in Bavaria in 1803 .

In 1209 Count Palatine Otto VIII von Wittelsbach , the murderer of the Roman-German King Philip of Swabia, was found in the Oberstrang castle stables in Oberndorf and killed. The predominant soil culture consisted of viticulture until around 1760 and then more and more gave way to hops. In terms of the church, Oberndorf remained a branch of Abbach despite several attempts at a solution.

Already after the Second World War it was intended to incorporate the Oberndorf community into Bad Abbach. A municipal council resolution of March 28, 1946 with reference to the agricultural structure, the sufficient population and economic power as well as the own school could prevent the incorporation. It was not until the regional reform in Bavaria that Oberndorf under the last mayor, Ernst Gassner, decided to join Bad Abbach on January 1, 1978 based on a unanimous municipal council resolution.
