geography

Oberpeiching is close to the state road 2047 from Rain to Holzheim and is connected to this as well as to Rain and Münster by local roads. The Lech flows through the town hall , the village itself lies above the so-called Lechleite. Nevertheless, the river, which flows into the Danube 10 km further north, shaped life in earlier epochs. The Münsterer Alte , which comes from the south, flows into the Lech to the southwest of Oberpeiching .
South of Oberpeiching is the conservation area Lech Heide-Saxony Forest .

history

The place is on the northern edge of the former Roman road , which , coming from the castle courtyards near Mertingen , led across the Lech and on towards Staudheim and Burgheim . During excavations, remains of Roman buildings and a Roman cemetery have been found near the village.

Oberpeiching is a real -ing place and was probably settled by Bavarians in the early 6th century. From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the farms were assigned to different landlords. From 1818 (community edict ) it formed a community with Unterpeiching ; In 1849 the neighboring town became an independent municipality. In the district of Oberpeiching, at river km 11.5, a hydropower plant was built on the Lech in 1954 . It has an output of 12.3 megawatts . The former school, in which all eight grades were taught in one hall, was closed in 1969. The building now serves as the home of the Peichinger clubs and also has a small theater hall.
Until July 1, 1972 Oberpeiching belonged as an independent municipality to the district of Neuburg an der Donau and then fell to the district of Nördlingen-Donauwörth with the regional reform in Bavaria , which was given the current name of the district of Donau-Ries on May 1, 1973 . On July 1, 1972, the place was incorporated into the city of Rain.
