Lützel-Wiebelsbach is a district of the municipality of Lützelbach in the Odenwald district in southern Hesse . The village has almost 2800 inhabitants and is the seat of the municipal administration.

Geographical location

Lützel-Wiebelsbach is located in the northeastern Odenwald on the eponymous brooks of the Lützelbach and its right northern tributary, the Wiebelsbach . The centers of the two suburbs that have grown together, Wiebelsbach in the northeast and Lützelbach in the southwest, are only about 500 meters apart. The Lützelbach elementary school with a large sports area was built on the hill in between in 1967 .

The Lützelbach Roman fort ( numerus fort ), a Roman base on the Neckar-Odenwald-Limes, is located in the southeast of the district .

Lützel-Wiebelsbach was created with the introduction of the Hessian municipal code in 1821 through the merger of the closely neighboring villages of Lützelbach and Wiebelsbach , which grew together structurally in the course of the 19th century.

The first surviving mention of Lützelbach dates back to 1160. In an Aschaffenburg document, a nobleman named Wignand von Luzzelenbach is mentioned. At this time, a Reitz von Lützelbach was named as Vogt of the Fulda monastery . His ancestral castle stood on today's Kirchberg in Lützel-Wiebelsbach (→ Lützelbach Castle ). They later took over the Breuberg Bailiwick and became masters of Breuberg Castle . The place Wiebelspach has been documented since 1237. After the charm of Breuberg died out in 1323, the place came with the Breuberg rule to various partial owners until the rule fell to the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806 .

On the occasion of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Breitenbrunn joined the municipality of Lützel-Wiebelsbach on February 1, 1971, and the municipality of Rimhorn on December 31, 1971 . Then the municipalities Steinbachtal and Lützel-Wiebelsbach were merged with effect from August 1, 1972 to the municipality Lützelwiebelsbach by the law for the reorganization of the district Erbach . One year later, on July 1, 1973, the community was renamed Lützelbach . For Lützel-Wiebelsbach, as for every district of the newly created community, a local district was formed with a local advisory board and local councilor .

The coat of arms of the municipality of Lützel-Wiebelsbach in what was then the district of Erbach was approved by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior on January 17, 1962 . It was designed by the Bad Nauheim heraldist Heinz Ritt .

The coat of arms goes back to that of Mr. Reiz von Lützelbach (later von Breuberg), whose ancestral castle was in Lützelbach, probably near the Protestant church.

The coat of arms, like the flag, was adopted by the new municipality of Lützelbach after the territorial reform in 1973.

The flag was approved by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior on March 20, 1967 and is described as follows:
