history

The place was first mentioned in 1146 as "Tambach". The place name is derived from the name of the water body, the defining word of which is "tann" (= fir ). Accordingly, the name of the water means “by the stream surrounded by fir trees”.

In the 12th century, a local nobleman, Rüdiger von Dambach, who lived in what is now the rectory, was mentioned.

Miles Heinrich von Kemenaten sold his goods there to the Heilsbronn monastery in 1311 . From the 14th century, the monastery was one of three tithe lords along with Dinkelsbühl and Eichstätt. In the Thirty Years' War, the place suffered tremendously, especially from late autumn 1631 onwards, although it was not a place of slaughter itself.

Dambach was in the Fraisch district of the Ansbach Oberamt Wassertrüdingen . The imperial city of Dinkelsbühl wanted to assert the Fraisch on their estates. The village and township government had the box office Wassertrüdingen held. At the end of the 18th century there were 35 properties in Dambach. Were landlords

There was also a church, a parsonage, a schoolhouse, and a community pastor's house.

From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Wassertrüdingen .

In 1806 Dambach came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As a result of the municipal edict , the place was assigned to the tax district Lentersheim formed in 1809 . At the same time, the Dambach rural community was formed, to which the towns of Hammerschmiede , Kreuthof and Ziegelhütte belonged.

The municipality of Dambach had an area of 4.395 km². In administration and jurisdiction it was subordinate to the Wassertrüdingen Regional Court and the Wassertrüdingen Rent Office ( renamed Wassertrüdingen Tax Office in 1919 , Gunzenhausen Tax Office 1932–1973 , Ansbach Tax Office from 1973 ). The jurisdiction remained with the district court Wassertrüdingen until 1879, from 1879 to 1956 the district court Wassertrüdingen was responsible, from 1956 to 1970 the district court Gunzenhausen and from 1970 to 1973 the district court Dinkelsbühl , which has been a branch of the district court Ansbach since 1973 . The administration was taken over by the newly created Dinkelsbühl district office in 1862 (renamed the Dinkelsbühl district in 1938 ). With the dissolution of the Dinkelsbühl district in 1972, Dambach came to the Ansbach district.

On May 1, 1978 Dambach was incorporated into Ehingen as part of the regional reform .

  • The Dambach fort was located directly on the Raetian Limes at the point where the hammer mills with the ponds are today . In its second expansion phase, it was about 2.2 hectares in size. Today there is hardly anything left of the Roman relics in the area, as much was destroyed by the early industrial buildings and the construction of ponds.

education

Since the end of the Thirty Years' War there was a school house in Dambach, which originally stood on the property at number 20. The teacher also performed the services of the sacristan and organist. At that time, the profession of teacher was mostly exercised by disused soldiers. The schoolhouse was also the teacher's apartment. The living room and the classroom were the same space. When all the students were there, the number was up to 60. However, the school attendance was very irregular, as the children had to help a lot in agriculture. All students were taught together in one room. In 1825 a new school building (house number 13) was built, but it soon turned out to be too small. For this reason, a school house was built again in 1872 on the property at number 46. With the school reform in 1970, the elementary school in Dambach was closed and the children have been going to a school outside of Germany since then.
