history
After the Teutons, according to Dietwulf Baatz, overrun the facilities of the Dambach fort by 260 AD at the latest , this area was uninhabited for a long time. In 1720 a flour mill with pond and saw gate was built on the site of the former Roman fort, which was later used as a hammer forge for the production of iron tools such as shovels and pickaxes. Operations ceased in World War II . A brick factory was built next to the hammer mill. Up until the First World War , roof tiles and bricks were made and lime was burned there.
Hammerschmiede was originally called Kreutmühle. It was in the Fraisch district of the Ansbach Oberamt Wassertrüdingen . Towards the end of the 18th century, the place consisted of a hammer forge with a grinding and grinding mill and a brickworks . The landlord of both properties was the box office Wassertrüdingen . From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Wassertrüdingen .
As a result of the community edict, Hammerschmiede was assigned to the Lentersheim tax district formed in 1809 and the Dambach rural community . As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , Hammerschmiede was incorporated into Ehingen on May 1, 1978.
