The German Limes hiking route opens up to hikers as a network of long-distance hiking trails the historical course of the UNESCO - World Heritage Limes Germanicus on its full length. The route runs from the Rhine to the Danube through the four federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate , Hesse , Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria . The total length of the German Limes hiking trail between Rheinbrohl and Bad Gögging is 734.7 km.

Division and path maintenance

The German Limes Hiking Trail is made up of various individual Limes hiking trails that are maintained by the respective regional hiking clubs or tourism associations:

The regional clubs and associations are supported by the Verein Deutsche Limes-Straße e. V. , in which 93 municipalities, districts and tourism associations have come together. The German Limes Road Association has also set up and maintains the German Limes Road and the German Limes Cycle Route .

The Fränkischer Albverein, Schwäbischer Albverein, Spessartbund, Taunusklub and Westerwald-Verein , which are part of the German Hiking Association , agreed on November 23, 2010 in the resolution of the Limes hiking associations on the quality of the Limes hiking trail for a (if possible) uniform marking symbol and a clear one recognizable, clear and, as far as possible, authentically running and thus fulfilling monument conservation requirements .
