The Limesweg is a 38.9 km long hiking trail from Wilburgstetten to Gunzenhausen in the Bavarian administrative district of Middle Franconia , which follows the course of the Rhaetian Limes .
Route
The route begins in Wilburgstetten at the Limes information board on Bundesstraße 25 . It leads via Weiltingen - Untermichelbach - Dühren - Hammerschmiede - Kleinlellenfeld - Unterhambach to the Altmühlbrücke in Gunzenhausen.
Marking and path maintenance
Waymark is a black stylized Roman watchtower in a white rectangle.
The Franconian Alb Association is responsible for maintaining the path and the marking . The path bears the number 046 of the association.

A possible division of stages:
- Stage 1: Wilburgstetten - Wittelshofen
- Stage 2: Wittelshofen - Dennenloher See
- Stage 3: Dennenloher See - Gunzenhausen
Connection to other Limes routes
The path is part of a whole series of Limes hiking trails which, as the German Limes Hiking Trail, open up the Upper German-Rhaetian Limes to hikers in full. In the west, the path joins the Limes hiking trail of the Swabian Alb Association on the border with the state of Baden-Württemberg in Wilburgstetten . In the east, the path joins the Limes hiking trail in the Altmühltal nature park in Gunzenhausen .
history
When the hiking trail was set up, the Franconian Alb Association was solely responsible for the entire 150.7 km route from Wilburgstetten to Eining . Later, the Altmühltal Nature Park Tourism Association took over the care of the section east of Gunzenhausen and extended the route via Eining to Bad Gögging , increasing the total length of this section to around 115 km.
