Lindschied is a district of the city of Bad Schwalbach in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .

geography

Lindschied is a small town about 20 km northwest of Wiesbaden . It is located 382 meters above sea level in the Taunus above the Aar .

history

Lindschied was first mentioned in a document in 1260. Like all districts of Bad Schwalbach, it was one of the 15 "Überhöh'schen Villages" that have been known since the 10th century. According to tradition, Emperor Otto II gave the village to the Archbishop of Mainz at the time.

There are many indications that the village is much older and was founded in the so-called "third Frankish settlement phase", which lasted from the 6th to the 11th century. However, since there are no records from this time, the exact date of its creation cannot be traced and therefore only assumed around the year 800 AD. However, it is known that the Upper German Limes ran around Lindschied on the northern outskirts. Many remains from Roman times can be found. For example the so-called Justinusfelsen , named after Januarius Justinus, a Roman soldier who was on guard duty at the Limes or who worked in the nearby quarry and was immortalized in this stone with a graffito .

In 1355 Count Adolf von Nassau separated part of the Lindschieder district and had Adolfseck Castle built there, and the village of the same name was created . The district did not change significantly over the centuries, as can be learned from a wisdom from 1489.

18th and 19th centuries

The school system was also very pronounced in Lindschied. From 1816 onwards, there were lessons for children and young people in the local school on Hauptstraße. Due to a school reform in 1964, this school was closed and has been a residential building ever since.

Lindschied community center and fire station

On 1 January 1977 the municipality Lindschied, in the course of administrative reform in Hesse , powerful state law to Bad Schwalbach incorporated , it met with discontent among the population. As for every district outside the core city, the main statute established a local district for Lindschied with a local advisory board and local councilor .

In 1992 there was again a reason to celebrate, Lindschied finally got the long-awaited community center in which since then annually sorts festivals and events take place. The community center , which the inhabitants like to affectionately call Harzburg , is also used regularly by the various clubs , such as the volunteer fire brigade , the sports club and the shooting club .

coat of arms

The Lindschied coat of arms, a black, flying rooster on a yellow background, was created in 1514. The court at that time, which found its jurisdiction with the serfs (Huben, hence the Hubengericht ) of the villages of Lindschied and Heimbach, also met under Lindschied's Dorflinde.

Villa Lilly

Above Lindschied in the direction of Heimbach lies the Villa Lilly property , which was built by the German-American Adolphus Busch (founder of the Anheuser-Busch brewery ) between 1891 and 1911. A fairy tale park was integrated there, in which the most famous fairy tales were represented by groups of figures. During the Third Reich, the property housed a maternal home, and after the war an American soldiers' home. From 1949 the home for public education and youth care moved in and from 1959 to 1972 the German-Swiss boarding school Albert-Schweitzer-Schule . In 1961 the complex was bought by the State of Hesse and later extensively renovated for 15 million marks. The entire property has meanwhile been inhabited by members of the New Frankfurt School , founded by Hans Traxler and Robert Gernhardt , among others . From these, the first issue of the satirical magazine Titanic was planned and designed in the villa . The buildings are now all listed. Since 1987 the property has been used as a drug therapy center for the State of Hesse.

Marienkirche

Lindschied's little village church today

In Lindschied the plan to build a church matured in the 1950s. The 140 Catholics in Lindschied had a long route to church, especially difficult in winter. The number of churchgoers had fallen sharply after the two world wars. The situation changed when, in 1951, a biweekly service was set up in the Schwalbach cinema. In the long run that was only an unsatisfactory stopgap measure. After much deliberation, the decision to build a church was made in the spring of 1954. It was a daring decision, as the serious concerns in the last consultation with the Lindschiedern testified. The cost of the building was estimated at 40,000 DM, of which the 140 Lindschied Catholics could only raise a fraction. Only the ideally located building site opposite the school was available, which the church council member Philipp Weis made available free of charge. The Episcopal Ordinariate praised the zeal of the small congregation, but was unable to give a grant because of other important building projects.

The Wiesbaden architect Paul Johannbroer, who was already responsible for several other church buildings, took over the planning and construction management free of charge. The civil parish provided the lumber. The earthworks were carried out by the Lindschieder Catholics in self-help. The foundation stone was laid on November 21st. It was hoped that the shell of the church could be completed before winter , but an early frost period made it necessary to interrupt work. In addition, the financial means were also exhausted. However, benefactors were found, the companies involved largely accommodated the poor community, most of them carried out the work for free. The topping-out ceremony was held in May 1955 . Now the episcopal authority and the Bonifatiusverein helped, impressed by the performance of the poor community. On August 19th, the Sunday after the feast of the Assumption of Mary, the Marienkirche in Lindschied was inaugurated.

The church offers space for 120 believers. A royal cross rises above the altar and a statue of the Virgin Mary is attached to the side. The cross and the Madonna's protective cloak are both works by the Frankfurt sculptor Franz Bernhard. In the autumn of 1955 a bell was hung in the still empty open bell cage and an electric bell was installed. At the end of the 1970s, a tool shed with a solid foundation was added to the church, which was soon converted into a community room with a tea kitchen.

The Limes and Justinusfelsen

The Limes comes from Kemel over the Galgenkopf (formerly part of a Bundeswehr installation) and shortly behind it meets the Lindschied district boundary. Here he comes across the very old road that leads from Wiesbaden to Bad Schwalbach via Lindschied to Kemel and on to St. Goar, Bad Ems and Koblenz . It then runs almost parallel to this street (Kemeler Weg) at the watchtowers 51, 52 and 53 in the direction of Lindschied to the Silberberg, crosses Hohensteiner Weg shortly after the new elevated water reservoir, arches around Lindschied past the old water reservoir, in the direction of Aussiedlerhof Diefenbach (watchtower 54) crosses and crosses 2 farm roads and runs in an easterly direction towards the edge of the forest (watchtower 55), jumps back about 40 m and ends in a large crevice.

From here, the Limes strives towards the Aartal with a gradient and crosses the Aartal approx. 40 m before the small fort near Adolfseck (between rail kilometers 25.6 and 25.7). Justinus rock is at 25.7 km . Here a Roman legionnaire has immortalized himself with his name. The following inscription can be read in this rock: "Januarius Justinus". Unfortunately, nothing can be seen of the small fort in the Aartal today. The so-called "Frankenberger Pass", a Roman crossing over the Aartal near Fort Adolfseck, was of military importance in Roman times. This transition from Lindschieder Grund to Pohlbachtal across the entire Aartat must have consisted of a bridge. During excavations in the entire area of the fort and the Limes, several stumps with iron shoes were found. These excavations took place in 1897, 1899 and 1901. Even in 1969 pile stumps were found in the Aarbach regulation. The Limes runs from this small fort near Adolfseck to the east. There is an older and a younger Limes in the Adolfseck district. The older pile ditch was adapted to the terrain, the younger line pulled in a dead straight direction through open terrain up the slope towards Born.

By Lindschied of the runs as a portion German Limes trail of Limes trail of Taunus clubs .

societies

There are various types of clubs in Lindschied, from volunteer fire brigades to shooting clubs . Since 2003, Lindschied has been the first and so far only Hessian town to call itself SWR 1 home game community , as Lindschied managed to win the so-called home game of the Rhineland-Palatinate SWR 1 . The task was to build an aquapark with the simplest means, which was also successful.

The shooting club founded in 1993 is another club of Lindschied. Here everyone is given the opportunity to gain an insight into shooting sports or to actively pursue it. The shooting club can also have a youth group, which is led by qualified trainers who impart the necessary knowledge for the respective area.

Security

Lindschied's portable pump vehicle (TSF)

The Lindschied volunteer fire brigade, which was founded around 1932, is one of the largest associations in Lindschied.

In 1990, in addition to the emergency department, a youth fire brigade was founded, which since then has had a lively influx of children and young people between the ages of 10 and 17. Another big event for the Lindschied volunteer fire brigade was the handover of a new portable fire pump (TSF) based on a Mercedes Sprinter with modern equipment in 1998 . In 2005, the volunteer fire brigade was the first to announce the creation of a so-called mini fire brigade at the municipal level . This is for children between the ages of seven and nine and is intended to playfully prepare them for joining the youth fire brigade. For the 750th anniversary of Lindschied in 2010, a team transport vehicle (MTF) acquired by the fire brigade association was also put into service.
