The Kliniken Landkreis Biberach GmbH was a hospital operating company. On January 1, 2013, the Sana Kliniken group of companies took over 74.9% of the shares in the Biberach district clinics and has been called "Sana Kliniken Biberach district" since then .

structure

The company operated a clinic network consisting of four hospitals , three nursing homes and a geriatric clinic with locations in Biberach an der Riss , Laupheim , Ochsenhausen and Riedlingen :

In 2011, the clinic association was one of the largest employers in the Biberach district with 1,650 jobs and 140 training positions . The clinics also operated the school for health and nursing , which was founded in 1969 at the Biberach district clinic , which trained 30 health and nurses every year. In 2011, 20,000 inpatient treatments and 80,000 outpatient treatments were carried out. The clinics were the academic teaching hospital of the University of Ulm .

In February 2010, Hartmut Masanek, the managing director of Kliniken Landkreis Biberach GmbH, described the situation of the houses: “The houses are competitive. We are medically well equipped. "

Internal cost analyzes of the clinics in 2011 came to the conclusion that a one-location model with a new building at the Biberach location cost EUR 184 million, the previous three-location model with an investment of EUR 241 million at four locations, could be the better alternative for the health care of the citizens of the county. On May 15, 2012, the district council of the Biberach district decided to initiate a bidding process to find a strategic partner for the clinics. The consulting contract was awarded to the company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC). PWC is also the auditing company of the private operating company Rhön-Klinikum AG, which was listed on the MDAX in 2011 . As early as April 26, 2012, it was announced that Fresenius was planning to take over the Rhön-Klinikum hospital group and want to merge it with Helios Kliniken into one group.

Managing Director Hartmut Masanek wanted to end his employment relationship on September 30, 2011, but actually left the clinics at the end of the contract in June 2012. He switched to the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery in Karlsruhe , which is part of the Rhön Group.

On July 27, 2012, the district council decided unanimously and without discussion to initiate a structured bidding process for the three remaining locations together with PWC. The companies Ameos , Helios Kliniken and Sana Kliniken took part in the bidding process . The possible regional partners Waldburg-Zeil Kliniken and the St. Elisabeth Foundation did not take part in the bidding process.

On November 27, 2012, District Administrator Heiko Schmid presented the offers together with the spokesmen for Helios and Sana.

Both companies favor the new construction of a hospital in Biberach with a number of beds from 350 to a maximum of 500 beds, estimated for well over 100 million euros, on the newly designated urban area Hauderboschen , compared to the Biberach riot police . The Biberach Laupheim and Riedlingen hospitals would remain in the possession of the district. Sana and Helios wanted to acquire a 74.9% stake in the clinics, leaving the district with a blocking minority. Helios calculated with a grant from the state of Baden-Württemberg in the amount of 40 million euros and a symbolic property price of 1 euros.

On January 1, 2013, the Sana Kliniken group took over 74.9% of the shares in the Biberach district clinics. The clinics operate under the name “Sana Kliniken Landkreis Biberach” and in Laupheim as Sana Klinik Laupheim .
