Christian Jasper Klumker

Christian Jasper Klumker (born December 22, 1868 on the island of Juist ; † July 19, 1942 in Hedemünden ) was a German social worker .

Live and act

The pastor's son studied Protestant theology , philosophy and economics in Leipzig , Erlangen and Göttingen from 1888 to 1894 . He then studied economics, history and statistics in Leipzig . During his studies he became a member of the Association of German Students in Erlangen and Göttingen. In 1897 he received his doctorate and then worked at the Institute for Common Welfare in Frankfurt. In 1899 he became managing director of the Central Office for private welfare in Frankfurt. In 1901 he received a teaching post for poor relief and social welfare at the Frankfurt Academy for Social and Commercial Sciences. From 1903 he was managing director of the Institute for Common Good.

From 1920 Klumker was full professor for welfare and social education at the University of Frankfurt am Main . In 1933 he openly opposed National Socialism and, after the expulsion of the Jewish professors, called for the Frankfurt University to be closed. In 1934 Klumker retired. Hans Scherpner also studied with him .
